This week a different format for Three Things on Thursday. Today the first instalment of three, featuring designers known not just for their shoes but also for the design of their handbags.

Their designs are so exquisite that I would like to put a full spot light on each one separately.

We start with Ellen Verbeek.
Ellen is a Belgian designer who launched her first designs in 1999. However shoe design is not where she began. She was unable to find a real shoe design course in Belgium and therefore started by designing handbags.
She has continued with designing these accessories and they are available at Thiron in Belgium.

Fulfilling her dream of making shoes

Ellen has said that ever since she was a child she was fascinated by shoes. She used to draw them all the time, and put on her mother's shoes. She fulfilled her childhood dream of making shoes and traveled to Italy where she eventually found a small shoe factory.

While there, she bid her time and watched and learned the art of shoe making. The debut of her first shoe collection came in 2005.

Vegetable tanned leather

Her shoes are a bit more sober and sturdy and yet have distinct elements of surprise. The silver used in the details and toe cap are just such little design elements that set these apart. The beautiful muted and neutral colours ensure that these shoes should last from year to year. Ellen has designed shoes that are elegant, comfortable and innovative.
All Ellen Verbeek designs are manufactured with vegetable tanned leather, which means the leather does not contain chromium, which is good for the environment and good for you!

All shoes featured are from Ellen's current collection and start around 350 Euro.
