Beautiful knotted "klompjes" and you can even win a pair! I had to laugh though when she stated how she much preferred these over ugly and practical boat shoes.
However, I could not help but wonder how she managed to jump from her boat to the shore and not lose one of her beautiful "klompjes" in the water. I know I would never be able to manage this and certainly not with the amount of shore jumping Kittenheel is required to do!
Although, I must admit, boat shoes are not on my favourite list either.

The story behind boat shoes
Did you know there is a bit of a story behind how boat shoes came to be? The story, according to Wikipedia, goes like this; Sperry Top-Sider is the original brand of boat shoe designed in 1935 by Paul Sperry.
The Top-Siders were the first boat shoes introduced into the boating market and have never left. Sperry was an avid boater who, like most boaters, risked injury while walking on the slippery deck of his boat. His successful design was inspired by his cocker spaniel, Prince. While watching Prince run across the ice on a winter's day in Connecticut, he noticed his dog's amazing ability to maintain traction on the slippery surface. The pattern of grooves or cracks on his dog's feet gave him the idea for a leather upper-shoe with a herringbone pattern of grooves on the sole.
Sperry's shoe quickly became popular with boaters not only for its non-slip sole but also for its white color, which prevented the shoe from leaving marks on a boat's deck.

Well there you have it, practical, safe and you will not damage your boat.
However, I am not an avid boater and I am not convinced that these shoes deserve space in my closet. My dear readers, there is always a fashionable and stylish solution to all shoe problems.
May I introduce you to boat shoes inspired designer shoes. They may not be practical, safe or keep your boat from being damaged, but by golly, I will be falling down in style!
Helena Siebert uit Vancouver, Canada, is een myfavouriteshoes fan van het eerste uur. Niet alleen is zij een fan van John Fluevog schoenen, zij houdt van alle schoenen met een twist. Het leek haar leuk om schrijvend haar passie voor schoenen met ons te delen. Het kan haar lekker niks schelen dat haar man , zoals de meeste mannen, ook niet zo van wedges houdt. Ze koopt en draagt ze met plezier. Haar Nederlands is een beetje te roestig, dus schrijft zij in het Engels.
