Ghillie ties are a tongueless shoe with loops instead of eyelets and decorative lacing up the instep. They also found their origin in Scottish footwear like the brogues. Ghillie ties, as opposed to the brogues however, are ultra feminine. This season the ghillie tie and its various designer interpretations appear to abound. Although the versatile black and brown coloured shoes dominate the scene, I have been able to find some happy summer colours as well.
Some of the booties, like the Piere Hardy with the metallic leather, have a somewhat rocker chic look while the Fred de la Bretoniere has a lovely feminine flirty style.

The yellow Anthropology wedge will give your outfit a bright splash of colour and the laces add a wonderful nautical note.
Personally, I think that Derek Lam has done a fabulous job of combining the wooden clog look and the ghillie tie.

I have tried to source these shoes on line in local Dutch stores but have met with limited success. Alas ladies, other than Fred de la Bretoniere, I was a bust and it looks like it's back to web shopping.
On a positive note, if your only option is to buy these on line you might be the only one on your street wearing these lovelies. I know I have put my feet fully into this trend.
