Today I spend the day in Vancouver to see the trends for fall and winter 2010. It is always interesting to see what finally makes it into the stores as opposed to what we see on the runway.

I recently read a most interesting article about trends. Even though we are all influenced daily by trends, I had never given it thought as to the birth and life of one. I believe the birth of a trend has numerous factors from the formal trade shows such as Premier Vision in Paris, to the trend houses and street style.
Let's not forget about popular culture. Movies, literature, technology, the trends in other aspects of our lives influence designers all the time.

Now it is interesting to look at the consumer perception of trend. Why do some trends live longer than others? How moldable are we?

Keeping up with trends

Does our eye get used to a certain look?
I know I have sometimes cringed at a certain look only to embrace it six months later. However, I must admit that I am still not getting the harem pants.
Certainly marketing has a huge influence on how we perceive certain products, style and trends. It appears that with our current technology the world is moving faster, trends change annually and we are caught up in the cycle of keeping up with them.

In the next few weeks I hope to delve deeper into each trend and indeed provide you with inspiration to spend some of your hard earned cash on the latest of the latest.

What is hip & hot in Holland and Vancouver?
