It’s almost January. In retail, it’s the month for deals, steals and increasing the limit on your credit card. Probably not what we need right after Christmas. Before you head out wait, pause a moment. Think you need that other pair of black boots, that glittery pair of pumps? Now may seem like the right time to go for it, thanks to extreme price slashing, but there’s not much wisdom in the impulse buy. When it comes to shopping, preparation will help you make the most of the discount season. Today three tips I have found helpful to navigate these tempting times.
Closet cleanse:
Just as many of us like to load up on fruits and vegetables to detoxify after the holiday eat-and-drink fest, a shoe closet cleanse is important. Why keep those pumps that always pinch or those sling backs that give you blisters, no matter what you have tried. Take an inventory of what you own, you could even write it down. I know I have plenty of green shoes and boots and too many black ones as well. In other words, you want to make sure you don’t come home from your shopping excursion with more of the same, that you really don’t need. Next, go through the items and donate the ones you never wear.
Shop for classics:
The winter sale season is the best time to shop for classic quality pieces, wardrobe staples that you can get a great price. Resist the urge to buy something fashion-forward; that might not suit your wardrobe or style — just because of the sale price.
And finally Shop boutiques:
While mall shopping might seem easy and convenient, heading to one or two neighbourhoods and shopping the boutiques can deliver more original pieces to add to your shoe closet . A few interesting pieces can be more satisfying than bagfuls of mass merchandise.
